a5c7b9f00b When an old enemy, the Cylons, resurface and obliterate the 12 colonies, the crew of the aged Galactica protect a small civilian fleet - the last of humanity -they journey toward the fabled 13th colony, Earth. The second war against the Cylons is over, and The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed. Now Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galatica and President Laura Roslin lead a ragtag fleet of refugees in a supposed search for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many, which compound an already difficult situation. In addition to the Cylons hunting and attacking the fleet in space and their infiltrator units carrying out sabotage–eventheir former unwitting pawn, Gaius Baltar, helps in the hunt for them while hiding both his own guilt and the strange presence that haunts his every thought–the fleet also faces internal political conflict in which the rabble-rousing figure Tom Zarek is merely the loudest dissenting voice, not to mention recurring shortages of food, water, and even oxygen. In the midst of these trials, however, clues begin to appear to suggest that Adama's bluff about finding Earth might hold more truth than anyone could have guessed. Simply enough, this series is for a person who truly wants to be involved with the characters.

I am quite a skeptic when it comes to sci-fi television. I find that sci-fi is best fit for the books. This program caught me by surprise. It was suggested by a friend to watch it, after turning him down he suggested to just watch the mini-series. I sat down and watched it. I instantly enjoyed all of it's aspects. I felt the characters were believable, the settings were truly futuristic but very plausible, and the storyline had an overall focus that streamlined the conflicts. I then became an avid follower.

I agree with a few of the other comments that problems, conflicts, whatever you want to refer to themare constantly being resolved but instantly becoming a problem again, especially character relationships. This show uses its characters to propel the storyline forward versus using the storyline to carry the characters forward. This style seems to be very popular in television series these days. For example, shows like 'Lost', '24', 'Grey's Anatomy', 'ER'. These shows, including Battlestar, are ultimately dramas. I am not trying to take any glory away from the show but that is why many of us watch.

I think people watch and connect to this show because they find a character they can relate to. Someone who possess qualities that are similar to their own persona. They can truly sympathize for these characters.

There are parts that make you react negatively sometimes. Things that occur in the show that anger you, but isn't that just good quality programming. Isn't that saying that the writers, producers, directors, and actors/actresses are effectively playing their parts because they are making you, the audience, respond back to them.

I think BSG(the New Series) is worth a watch. First I have to say it was a nightmare to get my hands on this series, since it has never been shown in Sweden (to my knowledge), I've only heard references to it from a lot of other series.

Had to buy it from over-seas. But it was worth it! –

The re-imagination of BattleStar Galactica is easily one of the best series in this genre I've laid my eyes on.

As a comparison, I've watched all Babylon 5, I've watched the B5 Spin off Crusade, the Starwars movies..

Not to mention I've watched all Star-Trek series (except not all of The Original Series), and since it's long been made clear that there are to be no more Star-Trek, people have to get inventive with new series that features the same genre.

We've seen many series with awesome potential go to waste, "FireFly" is one of themwellBattleStar Galactica's OWN prequel series "Caprica". Caprica was,I've read it, more aligned to the female demography. But *I* found it absolutely captivating! And it is sad that it is gone.

Battlestar Galactica, (I'm currently in the beginning of the fourth series) is like a perfect blend between "the moving exploring theme",opposed to "the stationary non-exploring theme".

Confused? Let me clarify, Babylon5 and Deep Space 9 are non-exploring themes. While the Babylon 5's spin off "Crusade" and all other Star-Trek series are!

I also love the fact that the BSG series is "credible", and somewhat reminiscent of The Matrix (not to mention the likeness to the game MassEffect). In the series, there are no "skin-grafters", no "teleportation" (except for the rule-bending ;) FTL/Faster Than Light Drive) and no Phazers, Disruptors or Warp-Speed.

It's just plain old "Slug-Throwers" (as mentioned in Babylon 5) and stretchers you have to carry - no anti-grav plating there… It's a perfect blend of "The Future, The Now and The Then"

It also makes you look at humanity through the Cylons' eyes and vice-versa, it makes statements about god and gods, and really makes you wonder what happened BEFORE the 13 Clans split from Kobol. What happened there? How come the human race think the birthplace of humanity rests there?

And why is Earth a myth that has been kept alive at all if Kobol is humanities Birthplace?

I also love the acting, the paper that is cut in each corner, the whole STYLE of the show, it is rustic and futuristic. It has an atmosphere of hope and dread at the same time. Some episodes are nearly painful to watch, like when they where chased down by the Cylon every 33 minutes.

And others are simply beautiful. But all of them great!

Not much of a review (possibly) but a lot of questions and things to think about, and that is what makes a great series. It makes you think and wonder.

SPOILER WARNING!! (For the games "Mass Effect" and "Mass Effect2"

In the first game, the enemy are networked AI's, and travel is done with FTL-Drives and other things. :) SPOILER WARNING!!

Thanks for reading!
